We all have something to hide, so make sure your concealer hits the mark | Sali Hugues

If I had a few seconds to prep and could only choose one makeup item, it would be concealer. It is essential for lightening dark circles and hiding discoloration and blemishes. And yet, it's the product users dislike the most.

People want wrinkle-free, smooth, moist, and long-lasting camouflage, but here's the rub: concealer "matte" will generally offer coverage and longevity in exchange for looking a bit dry as the day progresses. A "radiant" concealer will usually be hydrating to get around this, but will usually settle into fine lines a bit. It's technically unavoidable, and so choosing the right one is really a matter of looking at your skin's natural characteristics and making a bit of compromise.

Therefore, I put each of the four major new concealer launches in one of two camps. Let's start with Bobbi Brown's Skin Full Cover Concealer (£26). This gives coverage for miles, conceals dark circles and spots extremely well, and has excellent staying power. You will appreciate its performance if you have oily skin; but if your skin tone is drier it will make it look and feel worse.

Vieve's Modern Radiance Concealer (£22) is also matte, but it's more hydrating while covering and blending exceptionally well, but if your eyes are dry (like mine) this still won't quench their thirst. Both can be made more comfortable by layering them under a rich eye cream or moisturizing color corrector (I use Superluminous from Beauty Pie (£10) but if you're also a unique person, you'll need an altogether creamier one.

Charlotte Tilbury's Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer (£25) is precisely that: a thick, creamy, slightly It leaves dry skin feeling smooth and plump, but as the day progresses it will likely crease, and if you want it to stay in place, you'll need to set it with powder to lock it in.

Ilia's True Skin Serum Concealer (£29) is my current favorite Like Tilbury, it's moisturizing, hydrating and leaves a nice smooth finish on flaky-prone under-eyes ( regular exfoliation helps tremendously), but because of that extra hydration, it provides a little less coverage, and there's invariably a time during the day when I reach into my purse to grab a concealer brush and buff it lightly to make it gooey. of health. It takes seconds and almost no skill.

In summary, oily skin types will like the first two concealers; dry skin will love the two seconds. Pure physics will not allow a third way.
