Chelsea 'consider' January move for Aston Villa star as Boehly targets transfer quartet

Chelsea have reportedly 'considered' a move for Aston Villa star Matty Cash as a replacement for Reece James.

James has missed half the season due to a knee problem and a third of his career overall due to injury.

And owner Todd Boehly is keen to find a replacement option for James in January, as well as transfers to improve in three other positions.

Cash moved to Villa from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2020 and impressed in both the Premier League and for Poland by becoming a full international.

He is one of several right-backs Chelsea are considering in January, according to Simon Phillips.

But the Blues also want to sign a central midfielder, a wide forward and a striker in this window, according to reports.

Enzo Fernandez was their main target in midfield, but Benfica turned cold in this negotiation after feeling 'disrespected' by Chelsea's tactics.

They like Marcus Thuram as a new centre-forward, who could be available on the cheap as his contract comes to an end.

But the Borussia Mönchengladbach star seems keen to stay with the Bundesliga club until the end of the season, when he will be available for a free transfer.

They've held talks with Mykhaylo Mudryk's reps but the Ukrainian is keen on a move to Arsenal and Shaktar's £85m valuation is more than Chelsea would be willing to pay anyway .

The Blues are moving towards the loan of Joao Felix, however.

The Portuguese international was aiming for an exit from Atletico after falling out of favor with coach Diego Simeone.

Arsenal and Manchester United were thought to be battling it out to sign the 23-year-old, but it looks like Chelsea rushed to land him.

The Athletic's David Ornstein has revealed the 'verbal agreement' and claims the loan fee is £9m for the remainder of the season.

He also confirmed that United and Arsenal were interested, but Felix opted for Chelsea as the "project appealed".

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs says Chelsea will pay Felix's full salary of £5.3m and claims that even if Chelsea push, Atletico are not has not yet accepted a purchase option in the contract.

He claims Chelsea had 'given up on signing him but prioritized him again in the last 48 hours after the two defeats to Manchester City and discussions with Graham Potter', the 'short-term needs' the outweighing the lack of 'long-term value'.

The talks are 'very advanced' and although 'another suitor could technically counter', Arsenal and United 'have made it clear that anything above £5m is (without an option) too high'.< /p>
