Chelsea reach 'full deal' to sign €10m striker as former player says he has 'so many problems'

Chelsea have reportedly reached a 'complete deal' to sign teenage striker David Datro Fofana from Norwegian side Molde for a fee of around €10m.

The Ivory Coast international has spent the last two years playing at Molde.

The 19-year-old played 26 times during the 2021 campaign, but started this season in the Eliteserien.

Fofana has 15 league goals and five assists in 24 outings and this form is about to take him elsewhere.

Chelsea are looking to the future under new co-owner Todd Boehly by signing Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina this summer.

The two teenagers should be joined by Fofana in the coming weeks. Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea are 'close to signing him'.

A 'full deal' is claimed to be in place for Chelsea to sign Fofana from Molde.

Fofana is currently discussing personal terms with Chelsea, but it shouldn't be a problem and the deal will 'be signed' for around €10m.

Chelsea have spent over £240m this summer bringing in Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella.

The Blues are not stopping there, as they are also preparing deals for RB Leipzig duo Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku.

This is necessary as Graham Potter's side are currently eighth in the Premier League. They are five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

Chelsea changed managers once this term with Potter replacing Thomas Tuchel.

They also struggle up front with just 17 goals scored in 14 Premier League games. That's less than any team currently in the top 10.

Their situation has been complicated because Armando Broja has now been out of action for several months due to a knee injury.

Former defender William Gallas believes Boehly 'would have failed' if Chelsea didn't finish in the top four.

"Of course! Of course they struggled for goals. Chelsea will need a striker," Gallas told Genting Casino.

"I think getting into the top four will be very difficult for them, even if they went out and signed a striker. It will be very difficult for Chelsea to finish in the top four.

"If Chelsea didn't finish in the top four, Todd Boehly would have failed. There is no excuse for a club like Chelsea to finish outside the top four.

"We are always very quick to judge players on their performance and so should the owner.

"He came in and spent a lot of money, but if he didn't make the top four, he would have failed.

Gallas added: "Chelsea have a lot of problems. There are so many problems at Chelsea. They really need to solve their problems."
