Church of Cherubim and Seraphim warns Buhari govt against 'arresting Peter Obi'

The Cherubim and Seraphim Uniting Church in Nigeria has warned the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari against arresting Labor Party, LP, presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, for treason.

The Prophet Solomon Alao, the supreme head of the church, warned that arresting Obi and Datti would warm the regime.

In his Easter message on Sunday, Alao said the federal government should assure the opposition of justice in the courts rather than threatening them.

According to Alao: "The federal government needs to get soft on its dealings with Obi and Datti and stop threatening to arrest and prosecute them for treason.

“We have not seen enough persuasion and conviction from the government and the ruling party to convince the opposition parties and their candidates that they will not interfere in the judicial process, and c now is the time to do it."

The cleric also warned Obi supporters against their statements, adding that they should stop creating enemies for Obi.

Recently, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, accused Obi of committing “treason” by inciting people to violence after the result of the presidential election.
