UPDATE: I prefer younger running mates - Peter Obi

Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi opened up on his choice of running mate on Wednesday, saying he preferred someone younger as his running mate.

The former governor of Anambra State said this during an appearance on Arise TV Morning Show.

He added that he prefers a younger person who has something to offer to complete his ticket rather than retraining old-timers who had been in government before.

When asked to clarify social media rumors that he had chosen businessman and politician, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, as his running mate, Obi noted that although consultations are underway, he has yet to choose a running mate.

He said, "We talk to a number of people and Baba-Ahmed is a capable hand and I wish it was him. But I wish I could work with someone younger.

"I prefer young people with fresh ideas who have a lot to offer rather than recycling the old ones. I am looking for a competent person and I am building a great team.

"I want people who can look me in the eye and disagree with me at cabinet meetings. People who have their own minds and ideas. If you agree with me in three meetings you left because it means you don't have your own ideas. I want people and cabinet members who can say, "Mr. President, you are wrong. »

On when he will release his manifesto, he said rather than a manifesto, he had practiced everything he preached and the recordings are there for Nigerians to check.

"How can I hire professors to write or draft policy papers for me that I don't even believe in?

"I replicated everything I promised Nigerians before. It would be the same. What I did in Anambra and what I achieved is what we will replicate on a larger scale. We want Nigeria to become the engine of production,” the presidential candidate said.

During the social media slander campaign, Obi alleged that his opponents paid people online to slander his campaign team by infiltrating his top supporters and spreading lies online.

The former leader of the Peoples Democratic Party noted that despite online slander campaigns and rumors that northerners would not vote for him in the 2023 elections, he believed Nigerians and locals du Nord would vote for him based on their skills.

“I am running as President of Nigeria to solve the problem of the country and not because I am from one part or region of the country.

“We must do things that will bring hope to people. Nigerians must be proud of this country and that is what I planned to do,” he added.
