The kids brought you from the gutter to be PDP president - Wike fires back at Ayu

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike hit back at People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Iyorchia Ayu on Thursday for calling some party members children.

"These children you said we are, brought you out of nothing," Wike said during the commissioning of Omerelu Internal Roads in the state's Ikwerre Local Government Area.

"Someone said that those of you who said the right thing should be done were boys; they are children. You can imagine what power can do. You can imagine how ingratitude how ungrateful people can be.

"I thought that as the president of a party that wants to win elections, your job is to bring peace to the party; your business is not to divide your party, your business is not to be arrogant.

"Dr. Ayu said we were children. Yes, the children brought you to be president of the party, the children brought you from the gutter to make you president.

“Ayu, you have been impeached as President of the Senate, Ayu, you have been removed by (former President Olusegun) Obasanjo in his administration twice. Arrogance can get you nowhere.”

Wike challenged Ayu to show himself as a man of honor and integrity by fulfilling his promise that he would step down from the presidential seat if the northern region produced the party's presidential candidate.

Ayu had insisted that he would not succumb to calls from PDP members loyal to Wike to resign from his post.

He said such calls came from political amateurs who did not have a basic understanding of the principles of the PDP, saying he was elected by Nigerians and members of the PDP based on the guidelines of the PDP. PDP.

According to reports, after losing the PDP presidential primary to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar (of Adamawa State); Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has set out the conditions for remaining in the party.

One of the conditions reported is that Ayu, who hails from Benue State, also in northern Nigeria, must resign.

But in his response, Ayu emphasized that he would not quit because some people are not comfortable with him.

"I was elected national president of the PDP for four years, I don't even have a year in this position," Ayu said during an interview with BBC Hausa.

"Atiku's victory in the national primaries has nothing to do with the leadership of the party; I was the real winner of the election. We acted in accordance with the precepts of the PDP constitution.

"I haven't broken any rules; in fact, I'm working to bring about reforms in the party. I really don't mind the unnecessary controversy being generated."
