Chris Eubank Sr once left commentators angry with some curious antics in the Eubank Jr corner

The prospect of Chris Eubank being in his son's corner for his huge clash with Connor Benn is likely to leave boxing fans licking their lips considering his previous antics. Eubank Jr and Benn will meet at the O2 Arena on October 8, 29 years after their fathers met in a spectacular draw at Old Trafford.

And given the history attached to their fight, 32-year-old Eubank Jr has expressed his intention to have his father – who held world titles at middleweight and super-middleweight levels – in his corner. However, that notion currently seems remote, with the Sussex-born star admitting the pair have not spoken since the fight was confirmed.

“With this type of fight, I actually wish my old man was in the corner with me,” he said. "Just because of what it all means to us. But I don't know if he wants to be around, that's the question.

"Since the fight was announced, I haven't really heard from him, which is amazing to say. I've been waiting for that phone call, waiting for him to walk through the door and say, " Alright son, let's do this." It's interesting, but we'll get there eventually and we'll find a solution.”

In 2014, the man who called himself 'Simply the Best' was at his son's side as they beat Stepan Horvath at Newcastle. And during a break between rounds, choose to step back and watch it without saying anything.

“For once, a man of few words,” said a correspondent. "Never expect what you expected. He's just here watching his son, trying to figure this out," as his co-commentator laughed, live.
