Broadcasting giant, Cable Network News, has fired its longtime host and news anchor, Don Lemon.

Lemon, who worked for the company for 17 years, said he was unceremoniously fired by the company on Monday.

He expressed his shock in a statement shared via Twitter, saying he had received "no indication" that his employment would be terminated.

“I was informed this morning by my agent that I was fired by CNN. say it straight up. At no time was it hinted to me that I would not be able to continue doing the work I loved within the network.

"Clearly there are bigger issues at play. That said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I worked with for an incredible race. They are the most talented journalists industry, and I wish them all the best," he wrote.

CNN, however, refuted Lemon's claims in a tweet, saying he had "offered the opportunity to meet with management, but instead issued a statement on Twitter."

Before his departure, Lemon hosted "CNN This Morning" with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins. Previously, he hosted the prime-time show "Don Lemon Tonight," which ran for eight years.

The TV personality came under heavy criticism in February after making comments deemed by many to be sexist on 'CNN This Morning'.

While discussing Nikki Haley, a presidential candidate who has called for mental capacity testing for politicians over 75, Lemon argued that the 51-year-old herself "isn't not at its peak. When challenged by his co-hosts, he doubled down on his claims by stating that a woman is "only considered to be at her peak in her 20s, 30s and maybe 40s".

Lemon was later suspended by CNN management, but was reinstated after apologizing.

A Variety report calling Lemon a misogynist recently went viral. He vehemently denied the allegations of aggressive and "diva-like" behavior made against him in the report.
