Colombian Bitcoiner aims to give coffee lovers an orange pill, one bean at a time

The CEO of Lightning Koffee launched the coffee startup in October with the goal of bringing Medellín businesses to Bitcoin.

José Luis Garcia is a coffee lover and entrepreneur trying to make his mark in the city of Medellín, the birthplace of Colombia's modern coffee industry.

Since launching his start-up Lightning Koffee in October, Garcia has had two goals in mind: brewing a great cup of coffee and spreading the word about Bitcoin (BTC).

His coffee beans, which he calls “The Bitcoiners Coffee,” are sourced and processed locally and are known for their sweet aftertaste.

Garcia believes his Colombian coffee can serve as a bridge for his fellow Paisas (Medellín residents) to reduce their dependence on the unpredictable Colombian peso and move more toward Bitcoin adoption.

“We have the best coffee in the world and I want my coffee brand to spread the word about bitcoin so that other businesses start receiving it as well,” Garcia said in an interview with Cointelegraph.

He added that this would “help drive Bitcoin’s circular economy” – where only Bitcoin is traded in exchange for goods and services.

Lightning Koffee does not currently accept fiat currencies, but does accept other cryptocurrencies in addition to Bitcoin. However, Garcia said he was an avowed max and wasted no time converting more tokens...
