Suspected kidnappers kill wives and children of Taraba traditional ruler

Gunmen suspected of being bandits killed the wives and five children of Mutum Biu District Chief Sani Muhammed.

Mutum Biu is located at Gasol Local Government Headquarters in Taraba State.

A senior Gasol Emirate official, Ibrahim Ya'u, briefed reporters on the incident in Jalingo, the state capital on Saturday.

State Police also confirmed the murders to PREMIUM TIMES Saturday night.

“It has been confirmed by reliable sources that 7 of the 8 family members of the Emir of M/biyu were killed by their assailants. One escaped from the forest,” said Usman Abdullahi, the state police spokesman.

Mr. Ya'u said one person among those abducted alongside the district chief's family managed to escape.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how the District Chief's family was abducted in Jalingo after gunmen attacked the residence of the monarch, a retired judge and a second-class chief.

Mr. Ya'u said the corpses of the traditional ruler's family members were deposited at the district chief's palace in Mutumbiyu for an Islamic burial on Saturday.
