Skipper Callum Parkinson has took 4- 69 and young leg spinner Rehan Ahmed, a career-best 3-50 as Middlesex collapsed 209-3 to 271 in their second innings, losing their last seven wickets for 62 after Mark Stoneman ( 81) and Max Holden (91) had put in 165 for the fourth wicket.

He left Leicestershire with a goal of 275 in the fourth inning to record his first victory of the season. Instead, they are in big trouble on 13-4.

After the heavy defeat of the leaders of the Nottinghamshire at Worcester, a win would take Middlesex, who now face Worcestershire at New Road, into next week's final round of fixtures to second place, just nine points adrift.

Leicestershire achieved their first goal by finishing just three points in the first leg after Ed Barnes and Chris Wright added 21 points to their total for the night.

Toby Roland-Jones won the last wicket when Barnes dominated a pull to be caught behind for a season-best 46, with the Middlesex tailor improving his numbers to 4-66 and a class-leading 59 wickets for the season. Five more will equal his career-best total of 64 in 2012.

Leicestershire were then on the rise when Middlesex lost three wickets in the first 10 overs, mostly as a result of Parkinson's bold move to try his own left arm spin with the new ball which had just five overs.
