The versatile England Under-19 impressed on the final day of the season at the Incora County Ground with a stunning 122 from 113 balls to deliver a memorable finish to a miserable season for the last Division Two club.

It was also a record performance as he became the first Leicestershire player to score his first cent and win his first shot five wickets in the same game.

The 18-year-old was well supported by Lewis Hill, who scored 60 from 157 and shared a fourth wicket of 163 in 35 overs with Ahmed.

Harry Swindells (48 ) and Tom Scriven (30) added 70 and although Sam Conners celebrated his county cap by winning his 50th Championship wicket, Leicestershire had 86 leads at 405-7 when rain relegated the game to a draw with 20 overs remaining.

Derbyshire probably sensed the possibility of an early finish when Ben Aitchison struck in the fourth inning morning.

Sam Evans had driven the fast thrower square to the limit, but the ball following drew him into play and Wayne Madsen landed a hold bass on second slip.
