Former 100m hurdles world record holder congratulates Amusan

The congratulatory messages keep pouring in for Nigerian Tobi Amusan after her record-breaking performance at the just-concluded World Championships in Athletics in Oregon.

The latest accolade for the Nigerian world champion comes from the event's former world record holder, Kendra Harrison.

Harrison via a tweet Tuesday on her verified Twitter account praised Amusan's achievement and went on to mention a reason why she was happy the record was broken by the Nigerian.

She wrote: "Congratulations to @Evaglobal01 records are meant to be broken and you broke mine. Glad to see the record stays in the Adidas family."

Amusan and Harrison are both signed to sports kit manufacturing giants, Addidas and the American is proud to still be on top globally.

25-year-old Amusan finished fourth at the Olympics last year and fourth at the World Championships in Doha in 2019, but the 'almost girl' broke the record of 12.20 seconds held by Keni Harrison as ran a blistering time of 12.12s to win her semi-final.

Interestingly, in 2016 Harrison also broke the record in unusual circumstances: in London, a week before the start of the Olympics after failing to qualify for Team USA en route to Rio of Janeiro.

Amusan told Harrison six years ago she was going to break the record and that's exactly what she did Monday in Oregon.
