Court remands Ghanaian accused of raping neighbor's daughter

An Ikeja Magistrate's Court on Tuesday ordered a 60-year-old Ghanaian, Edward Quayson, to be remanded to Kirikiri Correctional Center for allegedly raping his neighbour's daughter.

Police charged Mr. Quayson, who resides at 14, Kalejaiye St., Sasha, Lagos, with defilement.

The Chief Magistrate, B. O Osunsanmi, refused to accept Mr. Quayson's plea, pending legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

She adjourned the case until August 18

Earlier, the prosecutor, Raji Akeem, told the court that the offense was committed on May 22, at the defendant's home.

Mr. Akeem said the victim, an 11-year-old girl, and other children were placed in the care of Mr. Quayson by their mother.
