COVID-19: Nigeria relaxes travel protocols and cancels PCR test

The Nigerian government has again announced the revision of the travel protocol in response to the significant reduction in global cases of the coronavirus pandemic.

A note issued to all airline operators, among other stakeholders in the aviation industry, by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nigeria (NCAA), confirmed that the prevalence of the pandemic in the country and " most parts of the world remained at a low level for an extended period”

The NCAA, in the memo dated December 12 and referenced: NCAA/DG/AIR/11/16/358, said the new revision was sanctioned by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 (PSC) , which is headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

The memo was signed by NCAA General Manager Musa Nuhu.

On the masks

The new protocol relaxed the rule on the use of face masks inside airport terminals and on board aircraft by airport workers, passengers and crew, stating that it “ is no longer required".

The memo said in part: "The wearing of a face mask by passengers on board aircraft or inside air terminals is discretionary but recommended."

He said, however, that people aged 60 and over, those who are immunocompromised and those with co-morbidities are advised to continue to use face masks and should "wash their hands with water and soap, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers". disinfectants and avoid large gatherings. »
