Cricket World Cup Trophy tour sparks excitement in Lagos

The iconic Cricket Oval in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, was a hive of activity on Wednesday as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men's Cricket World Cup trophy tour, which took place over two days, ended in great style at the Center of Excellence.

After arriving in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Tuesday, where the trophy was graciously received by the new Sports Minister, John Enoh, Lagos was the next step.

Over 400 statewide public and private school students and other cricket enthusiasts; including expats gathered in large numbers to get a glimpse of one of the sport's most prized pieces of silverware.

The Trophy Tour event, which also showcased the rich culture of Nigeria, with several colorful displays, attracted attention and participation from various people in the sports industry.

Notable attendees included ICC Head of Development William Glenwright; Rohet Roda, Senior Director, ICC Member Services; Patricia Kambarau, ICC Africa Development Manager; Eddy Wamba, Trophy Tour Director; Uyi Akpata, Chairman of the Nigerian Cricket Federation (NCF), and Amit Sharma, Managing Director of Nissan Nigeria, among others.

Uyi Akpata, speaking to reporters after the event, expressed his delight at the remarkable success achieved during the two-day trophy tour.

He welcomed the presence of all, especially the ICC dignitaries, as a testament to the recognition and importance of cricket in Africa, especially in Nigeria.
