The highly anticipated MetaMask Snaps will allow users to interact with a variety of different blockchain networks, receive project updates, and help demystify what happens in complex transactions, says Simon Morris, Head of the Consensys strategy.

Speaking to Cointelegraph on September 6 during Korea Blockchain Week, Morris said that MetaMask Snaps would work much like an Apple App Store for the crypto wallet, allowing third-party developers to launch new decentralized applications (DApps) – dubbed Snaps. - which extends the functionality of MetaMask.

Morris explained that the first set of Snaps released will be subject to security checks and will be whitelisted by the developers at Consensys. Going forward, the goal is to make the process as permissionless as publishing apps to the web.

The upgrade — which Morris says will arrive later this year — will allow users to download third-party extensions to their MetaMask wallet.

These will allow them to use their MetaMask wallet with non-EVM chains, including Bitcoin, Solana, Avalanche, and Starknet.

“MetaMask is making a massive assumption that there will be an EVM or something very similar to Ethereum, so what we are aiming for for the first release is to make MetaMask interoperable with other non-EVM chains. "

Snaps will also help reduce the obscurity surrounding signing transactions. Morris admitted that nowadays users often feel confused or intimidated when confirming transactions and hinted that some of the soon-to-be-released Snaps will help make the process of signing transactions and reviewing smart contracts less opaque at first sight. p>

Another feature that will be enabled by Snaps will allow developers to message users internally on MetaMask.
