Delta Poly embarks on the production of electricity from renewable energy sources

The Polytechnic in Delta State, Otefe-Oghara is expected to generate electricity through renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydro.

Also, as it has set aside a special fund to patent, promote, mass-produce, and market research projects of a standard acceptable to either students, staff, or a combined team of students and staff.

These were disclosed by the Rector of the institution, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, during the 21st Registration Ceremony for the 2022/2023 Academic Session held at the Chief James Auditorium Ibori.

Professor Ufuophu-Biri, while addressing new students of the school's National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) program, promised a cash prize for the best practical projects of the students from each of the schools and the student's overall project.

"I have already set up powerful experts within the polytechnic to start the process of producing a good proportion of our energy through renewable energy sources.

"We will be working on alternative solar and wind energy and the results promise to be rewarding. We will also explore the hydroelectric advantage of the Ethiope River which is just a few meters from the polytechnic.

"Very soon, the facility will be able to internally generate a significant portion of its energy needs.

“We are working hard to make this well-known and trusted polytechnic research center a center of innovation and land.

"To encourage staff and students from now on, we are setting up a special fund to patent, promote, mass-produce and commercialize any conventional level research project acceptable to either students, staff or a combined team of students and staff.

"From now on, there will be a cash prize for the best students in the practical projects of each of the schools and the overall student project.

"This measure aims to encourage creativity, functional and productive initiative, innovation and ingenuity", said the Rector.

He urged eager students to focus on their studies, avoid social vices, pay their tuition as they go, and avoid those who portray education as a scam.

Dignitaries present at the event were the principal officers of the institute such as the President, Board of Trustees, Chief Oghene-Aga Orugbo, Vice Rector, Dr. Jacob Ighere, Registrar, Efedi Chukwuemeka, the Librarian, Mrs. B. A. Akporhonor and the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Samuel Enudi, among others Deans of Schools and Heads of Departments.
