Delta Schools: Okowa approves retirement age at 65, 40 years of service

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has approved the retirement age of 65 for teaching and non-teaching staff in Delta Public Schools.

The approval covers civil servants working in polytechnics and state government-operated colleges of education.

The government has also approved 40 years as a year of service for its teaching and non-teaching staff.

Information Commissioner Charles Aniagwu said the decision was made at the state Executive Council meeting on Monday.

Other approvals included upward review of road projects, new road contracts, among others.

"Delta Public Schools teachers and non-teaching staff may serve until age 65.

"And teachers can also stay in the office until they are 40," the official said.

Until now, 60 was the retirement age, while 35 was the eligible years of service.
