The observation of a non-governmental organization, CLEEN Foundation, which conducted a capacity building training workshop for officers of the Gender Bureau of the Nigerian Police (NPF) and the Security and Civil Defense of Nigeria (NSCDC) held at Jamil Guest Palace Bauchi.

Addressing the participants, the resource person for the workshop, Dr. Angela Olofu Adeoye said that the aim of the training was to build the capacity of the participants in the area of ​​gender-based violence.

Angela Adeoye, Gender Specialist and Lecturer at the Center for Conflict Management and Peace Studies, University of Jos, Plateau State, said the training will equip participants with the additional knowledge required and sensitize them to global best practices in gender policing and governance within the security sector they represent.

According to her, "It's not their fault anyway because they don't have the proper training, the proper awareness, you know, of what these issues are, and that lack of knowledge gets in the way. their work and the role they are supposed to play as gender agents within the security sector."

She also said that “these shortcomings affect them in the way they deal with gender issues. You just find them bundling issues together and that further affects the basic human rights of citizens.”

The training, she said, should enable participants to learn about global best practices for addressing gender issues and put to good use the knowledge they will acquire during the training.

Angela Adeoye, who said that gender discrimination or inequality knows no religion or tribe, stressed that the problem cuts across all aspects of society.

She further noted that one of the essences of the capacity building training is to advocate, sensitize and sensitize the participants to enable them to transmit the acquired knowledge to the relevant institutions such as traditional and religious institutions. in their fields. .

"We believe that they have access to these people and that by virtue of the positions they occupy, they have the means to impact traditional and religious institutions in order to bring about the necessary change" , Dr. Adeoye maintained.

She informed the participants that it was a great privilege for them to be selected for the training, urging them to take the training with all seriousness and to see themselves as agents of social change and to pass on the knowledge acquired to their respective divisions and sectors in order to acquire the necessary change in gender issues.
