The designer then met with local designers and a handful of fashion students from the University of Washington. Then it was off to the university's Graham Chapel for the aforementioned chat for 800 fans. Another 1,000 were on the waiting list for the free trunk show. The "Conversation with Diane von Furstenberg" was presented by the Saint Louis Fashion Fund in partnership with the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.

St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones presented the designer with a proclamation declaring October 12 "Diane von Furstenberg Day" in St. Louis.

Susan Sherman, chair of the board of the St. Louis Fashion Fund, surprised von Furstenberg with the Saint Louis Fashion Fund Award. The honor had previously been bestowed on Iris Apfel, the late André Leon Talley, Dapper Dan and two St. Louis natives – Karlie Kloss and Derek Blasberg. Before returning to New York, von Furstenberg visited the Gateway Arch, the St. Louis Art Museum and the Pulitzer Arts Foundation.

Initially, as she was talking about her personal life and career, the parting words of the creator during the question-and-answer session were those who others can imitate. Berkman, STLFF public relations director, recalled: "Diane said, 'Every day I try to get in touch with someone, who I haven't been in contact with, to do something kind to them. It would be nice if everyone thought about doing it, because it would make you happier if you did something for someone else. '" Those who missed the conference or were on the waiting list can see it on the STLFF website.
