Diddy is perhaps well known as an accomplished music executive, gifted producer, and billionaire mogul. However, the "Gotta Move On" artist apparently made the wrong business decision in the 90s after sampling a Sting song without his permission.

In his 1997 hit "I'll Be Missing You" with Faith Evans - a tribute to the late The Notorious B.I.G. - Diddy sampled a track called "Every Breath You Take", which was written by Sting and released by his band, The Police, in 1983. For years it was believed that Diddy was still paying for the unauthorized sample, especially after a 2018 interview with Sting on The Breakfast Club recently resurfaced.

In the unearthed clip, Sting revealed how much Diddy was paying him at the time after co-host Charlamagne tha God asked the 71-year-old musician if it was true he was getting $2,000 a day for his illegal sample of 1983 song. Sting said of Diddy, "Yeah. For the rest of his life." He also clarified that Diddy had asked for permission to use the song, albeit after the fact. POPSUGAR contacted representatives for Sting for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.

After a snippet of Sting's interview began circulating on Twitter on April 5, Diddy quoted him on Twitter and wrote that he was paying Sting "5K a day", adding, "I love my brother @OfficialSting!
