Dsquared2 Pre-Fall 2023

Imagining Dean and Dan Caten starting work on their latest collection, one could easily imagine the duo of designers tell Alexa will play the hit song "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and vibrate throughout the creative process.

Instead of their usual trips around the world, the designers took a trip through the ages and audacity references, an eccentric line that wanted to emulate thrift store gems; only they were brand new Dsquared2 parts.

"Whatever you dream of finding, we'll make it for you", Dan Caten spoke about the concept for the collection, which also reminded the twins of their own forays into vintage stores when they were younger, looking for that special item that could put a different spin on their wardrobe.

The gimmick cleverly served the designers' desire to evoke casual, individual looks that allowed for expression self as well as to respect their characteristic penchant for blending styles and layering. As a result, the lineup was a mix of '70s glam and rock influences, disco vibes, bon ton accents, retro athletic inspirations and utilitarian inflections.

Rather than complete looks, the focus was on unique pieces. Bead-embroidered sheer dresses and short dresses with lace inserts had a lingerie flavor, while oversized plaid blazers looked borrowed from a man's closet. Classic tweed jackets got the Catens treatment with heavy crystal embellishments, while colorful sequins covered striped trousers for a flashy rainbow effect. More everyday striped pants paired with a leopard print shirt gave off Rod Stewart vibes.

The denim shone with distressed treatments, shimmering finishes, or star and planet appliqués that enhanced trousers and long skirts. Outerwear also showed a range from plush faux fur and a ruffled coat rendered in pastel shades to more practical utilitarian field jackets and a plaid sheepskin lined coat. /p>

And what about those over the knee, over the top cowboy boots? They definitely had to file under "best finds".
