Durazzi Milano RTW Fall 2023

The Ilenia Durazzi brand is getting bigger and better.

After two seasons of showroom appointments, the designer held the first real presentation of Durazzi Milano at Casa Corbellini- Wassermann, designed by renowned architect Piero Portaluppi and currently housing the contemporary art gallery Massimo De Carlo.

The packaged affair has attracted both the fashion and art scenes to l location, which matched Durazzi's penchant for modernism in architecture as well as his passion for artistic fields.

In his work, all of these elements intertwine with his ever-present equestrian inspiration and his ultimate mission to celebrating female empowerment. But rest assured, you won't catch a slogan t-shirt in its collections, because Durazzi operates in a more subtle way.

Cue the performance she put on during the presentation, in which portraits of women scientists, artists and intellectuals were projected onto the faces of the models. (Among the women Durazzi has cast as guiding minds, press notes cite activist Suzy Lake, writer Ottessa Moshfegh, Egypt's first astronaut Sara Sabry, multimedia artist Phoebe Boswell, scientist Silvia Franceschi, photographer and writer Carla Cerati, record jockey Sara Del Fabbro., and artist Mari Katayama).

The performance was a nod to Mary Beth Edelson's "Some Living American Women Artists", who reworked Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper by provocatively replacing the faces of the disciples with female artists of his time.

In their refined way, Durazzi's collections exude the same unabashed attitude. The crisp lines and impeccable fit of her designs are aimed at modern, ultra-stylish Amazons and telegraph confidence in a luxurious and unconventional way. Refined coats pierced with metal eyelets rub shoulders with saddle-shaped skirts and riding boots, two signatures of the brand, but other must-have pieces have been added for fall.

These included a felt bomber jacket; a soft leather suit; charming knits with fur effects; vinyl mini skirts and accessories adding a stylish counterpoint to artful textures, and a beautiful white shearling jacket that stole the show.

And that's quite a statement, considering Durazzi even brought two real horses into the yard of the Milanese building to reiterate its equestrian reference. Bold move for a first presentation.
