Dyche promises to 'sweat' and 'fight' to get Everton out of trouble

January 30: One week after Frank Lampard was sacked. Everton have appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract. The former Burnley manager will have the daunting task of saving the Toffees from relegation.

Having spent a decade at the Clarets, Dyche had been out of work since April but the 51-year-old is now tasked with rejuvenating Everton, who have endured a torrid season, languishing in 19th place, two points from safety.< /p>

"My staff and I are ready and eager to help get this great club back on track," Dyche said.

"I know the passionate fans of Everton and how valuable this club is to them. We are ready to work and ready to give them what they want. It starts with the sweat on the shirt, the effort and a return to some of the basics of what Everton Football Club has stood for for a long time.

"We want to bring back a good feeling. We need the fans, we need unity and we need everyone to be aligned. It starts with us as staff and players."

He becomes the seventh coach in the era of Farhad Moshiri ownership. Lampard didn't last more than a year, having saved Everton last season, but this campaign Everton have won no more than three top-flight games. Marcelo Bielsa has also held talks with the Merseyside club to succeed Lampard.

“Our goal is to create a team that works, fights and proudly wears its badge. The connection with the fans can then grow very quickly because they are so passionate,” Dyche said.

"There is quality in this team. But we have to make them shine. It's my job and that of my team."

On Saturday, Dyche and his new team will face a baptism of fire when they take on league leaders Arsenal in their first game.
