Ebonyi government begins airport runway upgrade

The Ebonyi State government, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, has begun upgrading the runway at Chuba Okadigbo Airport to international standards.

State Commissioner for Aviation and Technology, Ms Ngozi Obichukwu, said expatriates had been hired to upgrade the runway at the airport.

Obichukwu said the upgrade of the runway from concrete to standard asphalt is aimed at improving the operation of foreign airlines and other air movements at the airport.

The aviation commissioner, who assured airlines and foreign travelers of adequate protection and safe landing at the airport, said: “The runway is concrete, instead of asphalt. And that is why Governor Francis Nwifuru quickly dispatched competent track construction experts to see how the track can be upgraded to international standards.

“The expats are there and as you can see they work tirelessly to ensure that the track meets international standards. United Nigeria Airways landed here and requested that the concrete be turned into standard asphalt.

“Governor Francis Nwifuru has opened discussions with construction companies China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC and CDC to ensure the runway is built to international standards.

She added, “Chuba Okadigbo Airport poses a threat to other airports in the Southeast region and needs to be upgraded. »
