EbonyLife Film's Elesin Oba To Premiere In Nigerian Cinemas

EbonyLife Film's "Elesin Oba", an adaptation of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka's acclaimed play "Death and the King's Horseman", will be released in Nigerian cinemas on October 28.

Based on real events in Nigeria in 1943, “Elesin Oba” will be screened in various cinemas including EbonyLife, Filmhouse, Genesis and VIVA in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja and Akure, among others.

Located in the Oyo Empire, between sunset and sunrise, the king's horseman, Elesin Oba, must ritually commit suicide to s follow his late master into the afterlife.

His best intentions are baffled by his sexual desires, which lead to catastrophic consequences and end in a deadly confrontation with the British rulers of the day.

The horseman cannot fulfill his ultimate pledge to the king, letting his spirit wander the land, heralding the death of the land and its people.

Death and the King's Rider

This is the first time that one of Soyinka's works has been made into a feature film.

The film stars Odunlade Adekola as Elesin Oba, Shaffy Bello as Iyaloja, and famed musician Olawale "Brymo" Olofooro, who makes his screen debut as Praise Singer.
