Edo PDP holds by-election for House of Representatives and State Assembly

The Edo State branch of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) held a by-election yesterday to select new candidates who will fly the party flag in the upcoming elections to the Federal House of Representatives in Egor /Ikpoba Okha and the State Assembly, respectively.

The election was to fill the vacancy created by the death of the lawmaker representing the federal constituency of Egor/Ikpoba Okha in the House of Representatives, Jude Ise-Idehen, who previously won the party ticket.

A former member representing Ikpoba Okha constituency in the Edo State Assembly, Mr. Henry Okhuarobo, who resigned to run, garnered 54 votes to win the by-election held in Benin City.

He defeated Mr. Osagie Osifo and two others, including Mr. Nosa Adams and Sino Osawaru. Reacting to his victory, Okhuarobo thanked the PDP for the opportunity to serve, praying for the eternal rest of the late Jude Ise-Idehen.

He said, "We must thank Almighty God, who made this possible and, at the same time, pray that the soul of the gentleman, who originally won the ticket to the party, may rest in peace.

“I thank God for the opportunity given to me by my constituents of Egor and Ikpoba-Okha State Council to represent them in the National Assembly, especially the PDP family.< /p>

"I am truly grateful for this opportunity and will put the interests of the people of Edo first at all times. I will do my best to make the fortunes of Edo better," Okhuarobo promised.< /p>

Mr. Nicholas Asonsere won the PDP ticket for the State House of Assembly with 28 votes to beat Richard Egharevba and Esosa Ogbeifun,

The Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, Mr. Kolawole Shittu, praised the party for the success of the by-election, noting that it was free, fair and credible.
