Eight Nigerian Americans Elected to Top Political Offices in the United States

Eight Nigerian Americans were elected to top political positions in the just-concluded US midterm elections.

Segun Adeyina, Gabe Okoye, Solomon Adesanya, Tish Naghise and Phil Olaleye were elected as representatives from different districts in the state of Georgia.

Carol Kazeem was elected as a representative in one of Pennsylvania's 159 districts.

Oye Owolewa and Esther Agbaje were both re-elected to their previous positions. While Mr. Owolewa returned to the United States House of Representatives (shadow representative) in Washington DC, Ms. Agbaje won her seat as Minnesota State Representative in District 59B.

Congratulating the politicians, the head of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said they have not only made themselves famous but also boosted Nigeria's image.

“Congratulations to all of you and continue to make Nigerians proud, we love you and will continue to celebrate you,” she said.

Ms. Dabiri-Erewa noted that their election shows their leadership prowess and ability to succeed.

She also commended the Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee (NAPAC), a professional diaspora organization in the United States that collectively mobilizes support for Nigerian Americans involved in politics and public service in the United States.
