The country's electricity supply crisis could worsen from tomorrow, Wednesday, as unions ordered workers in the electricity sector to shut down and begin an indefinite strike over issues in suspense with the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The aggrieved workers under the umbrella of the National Union of Electricity Employees, were at the Abuja national headquarters of the TCN today ahead of the proposed strike.

The union noted that the strike was to protest a directive from the TCN board of directors requiring all acting PMs going to the annual general meeting to show up for a promotional interview.

In a circular titled "Call to Action", which was sent to Principal Assistant General Secretaries and Zone Organizing Secretaries, dated August 15, 2022, NUEE General Secretary Joe Ajaero ordered electricity workers to ensure full compliance, vowing to cripple TCN operations nationwide over anti-mass activities.

The statement reads in part: "You are hereby directed to immediately mobilize for a serious picketing of TCN headquarters and stations nationwide due to the directive of TCN's Board of Directors that all Acting PMs going to the AGM must appear for a promotion interview.< /p>

"This directive is contrary to our terms of service and career progression paths, and taken unilaterally without relevant stakeholders.

''This action takes effect from Tuesday, August 16, 2022 and the full withdrawal of services begins on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

“Ensure full compliance at all stations across the country.”
