Elon Musk says Twitter's new multicolored verification will launch next week

After spoiling the first launch of Twitter's "power to the people" verification system, Elon Musk says the social network will tentatively roll out a new multi-color verification system next week.

Twitter's owner said that under the program businesses would get a gold checkmark, government officials would get a gray checkmark - likely similar to the "official" checkmark he is currently testing with some prominent accounts - and the blue tick will be dedicated to individuals even if they are not celebrities. This would mean that the blue check mark will be used with old verified accounts and people who purchase Twitter's new $8 per month paid plan.

Musk added that the company aims to manually authenticate all verifications before the new verification system goes live. It's unclear what he means by that, as Twitter Blue followers will receive a blue check mark. Not only that, but Twitter's small staff will be under pressure to check every verification manually to prevent impersonation or spam.

Musk further explained that individuals can have a second small logo to indicate if they are part of a certain organization. This organization must also verify that the person represents them or works with them in some way. He added that the decision to apply a blue tick to all individual accounts was made because a person's notability is a subjective matter.

Earlier this month, Musk suspended the revamped Twitter Blue program and said it would resume on November 29. However, this week Tesla's CEO put that plan on hold until "there is a high level of stopping identity theft." Notably, this was the first time he talked about using multiple colors for verification.

He didn't say whether this new verification scheme will happen alongside the rollout of Twitter Blue's relaunch. This verification relaunch is likely to apply to existing verified accounts, businesses, and government officials - not paying subscribers - at this time.

Twitter has taken another step to stop spam and fake accounts when Twitter Blue is finally relaunched. Last week, the company changed its terms so that newly created accounts must wait 90 days from the account creation date before they can purchase a Twitter Blue subscription.

When Musk-led Twitter launched the new verification program on November 9, many accounts began impersonating brands, athletes, and celebrities. This caused Twitter to shut down the project immediately. Now he is taking all possible measures to avoid this kind of chaos again.

Earlier today, Musk said Twitter would offer all suspended accounts "a blanket amnesty" starting next week based on the results of the poll he conducted a few days ago.< /p>
