Protesters numbering over 200 stormed the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday following a secret filing by the Department of State Services, accusing the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, financing of terrorism and other crimes.

Protesters included Buhari Legacy Defenders, Arewa Youth Consultative Movement, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Movement, African Center for Justice and Human rights, Ethnic Youth Leaders, Political Party Chairmanmen Forum and Lawyers in Defense of Economic Rights and Justice.

They marched to the Federation Attorney General's Office where they filed a petition against the action of the DSS and demanded the dismissal of its CEO, Yusuf Bichi.

They also sent similar letters to the office of the President, Federation Government Secretary, Inspector General of Police, among others.

The protesters, who carried signs with various inscriptions, also alleged that the DSS had joined in the plot to remove the CBN governor for political and pecuniary reasons.

Protester leader Tochukwu Ohazuruike, who previously spoke at a press conference, alleged that the DSS CEO and his allies in the plot had already promised someone else the office upon agreement that the cash withdrawal limit policy would be immediately suspended.

Protesters also claimed that the plot to label Emefiele a terrorist was aimed at undermining the president, usurping his powers to hire, fire and remove Emefiele from office on the condition that they obtain the order to hold it for at least 60 days. impose another person as Governor of the Central Bank.

The DSS had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja in secret action under S66 of the Prevention and Prohibition of Terrorism Act 2022 to demand that the court order the detention of 'Emefiele for 60 days in the first instance.
