The employment department trains 1,000 unemployed people in renewable energies

The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, said the directorate recently commented on a training for 1,000 unemployed Nigerian youths on solar and renewable energy.

Mallam Fikpo said the training started in December 2022 with carefully selected beneficiaries from all states of the federation.

He went on to say that the initiative is part of the federal government's efforts to reduce unemployment in the country and boost energy supply for the nation's economic growth.

The DG added that participants are trained in various classifications of renewable energy under the umbrella of solar energy.

They should understand the concept of solar energy, ways of producing solar panels, systematic coatings needed to improve the performance of solar cells, methods of detecting faults in solar panels, solar reflectometry, that is i.e. measurement of solar reflectance and absorbance on surfaces to help mitigate climate change and the like.

According to Mallam Fikpo, the training of participants is suitable for operational energy at a moderate cost.

Giving more details about the Solar Energy Training (SET), the Director of Special Public Works (SPW), which is the department overseeing the training exercise, Mrs. Olaomi Roseline Silvia, said that the people recruited for the training exercise are unemployed graduates of higher education institutions and degree holders with technical background.

According to her, participants are currently undergoing a week-long intensive theoretical and practical training, after which they will be attached to major renewable energy companies in the country for more training and field and marketing experiences. During three months. period.

Meanwhile, NDE, on the verge of improving productivity and good service delivery in job creation and job generation for 2023, has organized capacity building seminars and workshops to various executives of its staff.

The resource persons instructed the participants to deploy all the necessary resources, both physically and psychologically, for their duty in order to be good service providers in terms of counselling, reorientation and presentation of employment options viable that confine to the acquisition of skills and the development of entrepreneurship for oneself employment and dependence.
