EPL: It's such a shame - Paul Parker reveals why Man United star failed at Old Trafford

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has revealed why he thinks Dutch star Donny van de Beek has become a flop at Old Trafford.

Van de Beek moved to Manchester United in a £35m deal in 2020 with high expectations following a stellar Champions League season with Ajax.

The midfielder signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, but given the way things are going, he will be discharged well before the end of this agreement.

The midfielder played only half of United's top-flight appearances during his first spell at the club and was loaned out to Everton in the second half of last season.

The Dutchman failed to impress at Goodison Park and was reduced to the hotter bench under Frank Lampard.

There was a general belief that the arrival of Erik ten Hag would allow Van de Beek to rediscover his best.

Parker told IndiaBetting: "Donny was clearly bought by a sporting director or a budding person who plays online, who plays FIFA football and thinks he knows the players.

"But in theory, he doesn't know them because he hasn't done his homework.

"Donny van de Beek is one of those players who looked good in an Ajax team during that Champions League period, but Manchester United are the biggest club in the world.

"He came there and he suddenly realized that it was too big a club for him. He just arrived like a rabbit in the headlamps.

"The club were in turmoil when they bought Van de Beek and during his time at United he was mixed up with all the different managers. He came at the wrong time.

"He came to the club at a time when fruits and vegetables were mixed in the same dish, and it's not really working, is it? There was no organization and that's a real shame , because he looks like a lovely boy."
