EPL: You forgot what Guardiola taught you - Neville slams Arteta on Man Utd defeat

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville continued to criticize Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta after their 3-1 loss at Old Trafford last weekend.

Neville questioned the Spaniard's decision to make tactical changes too soon, saying he should have learned from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

United took the lead through new boy Antony, but the Gunners fought back and equalized through Bukayo Saka.

Marcus Rashford then broke away to restore the Red Devils lead.

With his side again looking for a leveller, Arteta opted to make a triple substitution after 74 minutes.

Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Fabio Vieira replaced Martin Odegaard, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Albert Sambi Lokonga, giving Arsenal a much more attacking setup.

However, they conceded shortly, with Christian Eriksen setting up Rashford to seal the three points for the home side.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate Xtra, Neville said: "I was really surprised especially going through the Pep Guardiola School.

"Pep pursues a game the same way, all the time. He will just keep playing the same way, with the same methodology.

"Why did he go the way he did, so far with 20 minutes to go? Kieran Tierney is on the bench, he could have kept his balance on that left.

"I just thought Manchester United were always going to be more defensive in midfield, more compact, they were always going to break up the game more with these players coming in like Fred, like Casemiro.

"If you get counter-attacked, you're dead in the game. As soon as the substitutions were made by Arsenal, they were finished in that game because suddenly United always had that outcome."

Arsenal will have the chance to bounce back as they host Everton on Sunday.
