Tuesday's semi-final between England and Sweden is expected to see an audience of over 14 million viewers in the UK alone. These figures are not included in the UEFA figures.

UEFA said the previous aggregate total audience record of 164 million was surpassed after England's quarter-final win over Spain.

The Women's Euro has also attracted increased interest from neutral subscribers, defined as someone who does not support one of the two teams in action.

"Throughout the group stage, 54% of the audience was driven by neutral supporters, including 46% by those who support one of the two teams playing," UEFA said.< /p>

"The importance of this metric is that it shows that the tournament is attracting more and more interest from the general public. For example, the neutral public during the group stages in 2017 represented 48% of the cumulative audience. This year's edition is the first time it has crossed the 50% mark," UEFA said.

Social media also saw big numbers with a total of 152.4 million interactions generated during the group stage, TikTok (39.7%), Instagram (26.1%) and Twitter (19 .1%) being the top platforms driving engagement.< /p>

The tournament opener, England v Austria, was the most socially engaged match of the group stage with over 11.5 million social media interactions.
