An ex-cocaine trafficker after a failed career in Brazil

National Drug Enforcement Agency officers arrested a former footballer, Okafor Junior, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, upon his arrival from Sao Paulo, Brazil, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on an Ethiopian Airlines flight with 1.40 kg of crack.

The 33-year-old native of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Abia State was arrested on Monday, September 26, 2022, after anti-narcotics agents discovered that he concealed the illicit substance in the handles of his bags and padded the top edges of the bags.

In a statement on Sunday, anti-corruption agency spokesman Femi Babafemi noted that during an introductory interview, Okafor revealed that he was a former footballer for the University Hospital of Nigeria, Enugu FC, where he played for four seasons before leaving for Sri Lanka in 2014.

"He further stated that he left Sri Lanka for Brazil after playing for two seasons but was unable to advance his football career in Brazil in due to lack of official documents.

“Another Brazilian returnee, Ibeh Chinedu, was arrested the same day upon his arrival at Lagos airport from Sao Paulo, Brazil, on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Ibeh, from Ahiazu, Mbaise Local Government Area in Imo State, hid 3.20kg of black cocaine known as 'Lucci' in the false bottoms of his two bags. In his statement, he said he was to be paid 3,100,000 Naira upon successful delivery of the drug to Nigeria. said Babafemi.

The statement adds that an attempt by a 32-year-old businesswoman, Mrs. Pamela Odin, to smuggle 2,150 kg rohypnol tablets through Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Istanbul, Turkey was thwarted by NDLEA Agents.

The mother-of-one was arrested on Friday, September 23 as she attempted to board a Turkish airline flight with the drugs concealed in pepper and packed among foodstuffs.

The native of Afiesere Village, Ughelli North LGA, Delta State reportedly said that she operated a restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey but came to Nigeria to see her loved ones and buy groceries for his catering business.< /p>
