A former coordinator of the presidential amnesty program, Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo, has died.

Dokubo is believed to have died in a hospital in Abuja on Wednesday evening.

When contacted, a reliable source from the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, who spoke to The PUNCH on condition of anonymity, confirmed the death.

"I just heard him in the lobby this morning. I understand he died last night. So pathetic!" she said.

While the details of the incident are still unclear at the time of writing, his disappearance comes just two years after the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired), relieved him of his position as head of Amnesty. .

Born in Abonnema, Akuku Toru Local Government Area of ​​Rivers State on March 23, 1952, the former Niger Delta Amnesty Boss attended primary and secondary school in Abonnema .

Dokubo then did his 'A' levels at Huddersfield Technical College in West Yorkshire from 1978 to 1980, before gaining admission to the University of Teesside in Middlesbrough, where he took a course in history and modern politics and graduated with a BA [Hons] from the University of Bradford.

He completed his master's degree in peace studies, before pursuing his doctorate on the proliferation of nuclear weapons and its control.

In 1985, he obtained his doctorate at the same University of Bradford and was later appointed as a temporary lecturer in the department before moving to Nigeria in 1993.
