It was an atmosphere of joy in Umuahia and Aba in Abia State as the family and friends of the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and the IPOB family rejoiced at the news of the release and acquittal of Kanu through the Abuja Court of Appeal Judgment on Thursday evening.

There were pockets of jubilation in Aba and Umuahia as many were unaware that the matter was raised Thursday in Abuja.

Reacting to this development, Kanu's younger brother, Emma Kanu, told The PUNCH, "Victory is for all of us.

"I thank all, men, women, pastors, journalists, IPOB Media warriors, those we know and those we do not know all over the world, especially the judges of the Court of Appeals who have dealt with the case, even the dead.< /p>

"I also thank the federal government who understood and who, I know, will respect the decision of the Court of Appeal. It's a winning day.

"Most importantly, this is a time for all to sit down for the truth to be told. The truth must be told.

"It's not about war or fighting or carrying a gun, but a real discussion and that's all he asks for. Sit down and let's talk about it. That's all ."

In his message to The PUNCH in Umuahia, a friend of IPOB and Senator representing Aba Sud in the National Assembly, Senator Enyi Abaribe, said: "We thank God that justice was rendered by the judgment."

Grand Alliance All Progressives Vice-Governor candidate and member representing Aba South, Obinna Ichita, said: "I am optimistic that this judgment and the freedom of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will further deepen our resolve to achieve a lasting peace in the Southeast.

“I congratulate the judges of the Court of Appeal because, one thing is that they have proven that they are there to bring justice to the people. If the judges of the Court of Appeal decided that Nnamdi Kanu should be released and acquitted, I think it speaks to the quality and integrity of the learned judges of the Court of Appeal.

“It also speaks to the fact that our nation is evolving and is no longer a situation where one branch of government will do one thing and expect the other branch of government to do it without subjecting it to a intellectual interrogation.

"So, I'm glad our people have now realized that the justice system is the last hope of the common man.

"Peace will now return to the South East and the entrepreneurs of the conflict who besieged the South East and made life difficult for our people will be brought to shame."

The General Chairman of the South East Young Leaders Coalition, Goodluck Ibem, said: "Most Aba did not know that the issue would be raised today in Abuja. So the area is relatively calm but with pockets of jubilation."

He added: "The judgment of the Court of Appeal which freed and acquitted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is an indication that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man. It confirms that we have judges who will examine cases on their merits and not on their feelings. The judiciary has shown that there is hope for the common man.

“The release of Nnamdi Kanu will restore peace and security to the Southeast geopolitical area. Ndigbo people at home and in the diaspora are happy with this excellent news. Justice has finally been served.

“These criminals who have committed atrocities will have no choice but to leave Igboland immediately. Their illegal enterprises have come to an end.

“No more sit-at-homes in the Southeast. All economic activities will fully begin in the region.

“No more threats and counter-threats from various agitation groups. Normality has finally been restored.

"We are really satisfied with this judgment which acquitted and acquitted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu."

Reacting, the traditional Prime Minister of the former kingdom of Ibeku, Uche Akwukwegbu, said, "People of Ibeku are happy and as a man of Ibeku, I am also happy", and said advised the federal government to obey the rule of law.
