Father of woman found dead at Anambra Hotel calls for justice

Mr. Patrick Awuda, father of Chinyere Awuda, 27, who was found dead at Cosmilla Hotel, Awka last Monday, described the loss of his daughter as a huge shock.

Awuda, 79, from Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area, who spoke to reporters in Awka on Sunday, called on the Anambra State Government and the Nigerian Police to ensure that his daughter does not die in vain.

Chinyere allegedly went clubbing at a hotel nightclub at the birthday party of a young man (currently in custody) on July 16. Found dead in an abandoned swimming pool at the scene the next morning, she is believed to have died after being beaten by the birthday celebrant and his friends for a cause yet to be established.

Recounting his ordeal, Brother Awuda said Chinyere's death left the family broken.

He said his Nnamdi Azikiwe University graduate daughter, Awka, did not deserve to die as she did and called on the relevant authorities to ensure that her killers are brought to justice.

According to him: "This Monday morning, I called to check that she was okay, as she usually does, but after several calls, Chinyere did not answer.

"Later we were taken to the hotel but we had to wait until 4 p.m. when a police team came and asked if we wanted to see Chinyere.

"They took us to the abandoned swimming pool and let me in and I saw Chinyere's lifeless body with physical injuries. They refused to [let us] take pictures and quickly took her to the morgue."

He added: “My daughter is a nice person, she is not a thief as claimed, there is no evidence that she stole. She is a victim of murder, that's why we demand a full investigation into this case.
