Fendi to Unveil Arnaldo Pomodoro Exhibition in Rome

MILAN — Fendi spotlights one of Italy's most revered, internationally acclaimed contemporary sculptors for its bronze geometric shapes.

The luxury goods brand will inaugurate the exhibition "Arnaldo Pomodoro. The Grand Teatro delle Civiltà [ Arnaldo Pomodoro. The Great Theater of Civilizations].”

Running until October 1, the exhibition, curated by Lorenzo Respi and Andrea Viliani in collaboration with the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, will be staged at Fendi's headquarters in Rome, the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana. It is also the first step in a multi-year partnership with the foundation.

Designed for the interior and exterior spaces of the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, the exhibition covers more than 70 years of the artist's career, showcasing some thirty works by Pomodoro created between the late 1950s and 2021. There will also be a series of archival documents, ranging from photographs and documents to sketches and drawings , many of which will be shown publicly for the first time.

"We started talking in his workshop about the Navigli [interconnected canals of Milan] and we thought it would be more ambitious and beautiful to exhibit his works in our headquarters in Rome, a city where many of his works of art are located,” said Serge Brunschwig, President and CEO of Fendi.

Examples in Rome include the "Sfera Grande [Big Sphere]" placed in front of the Farnesina Ministry of Affairs foreign countries, the "Novecento" obelisk and the bronze sculpture of the courtyard of the pinecone of the Vatican.

The partnership aims to celebrate art "as an instrument that combines respect for heritage, attention to knowledge artistic languages ​​and the search for new forms of collaboration from a perspective of sustainability and innovation,” said Brunschwig.
