Ferrari confirms Frederic Vasseur as new boss minutes after Alfa Romeo exit statement

Frédéric Vasseur has left his role as Alfa Romeo team principal to take over the iconic role of Ferrari. The Frenchman had been strongly linked with the Prancing Horse since Mattia Binotto's departure was confirmed after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

His new role was confirmed just minutes after Alfa Romeo released a statement announcing his departure. He had been named as the Italian media's favorite even before Binotto's resignation was confirmed last month.

In a statement released by Ferrari, Vasseur said: "I am truly delighted and honored to take the helm of Scuderia Ferrari as Team Principal. As someone who has always had a passion for motorsport, Ferrari has always represented the very pinnacle of the racing world to me.

"I look forward to working with the talented and truly passionate team at Maranello to honor the history and legacy of the Scuderia and deliver for our Tifosi around the world."

According to Vasseur, he bought a new house in Maranello next to the Ferrari base. Vasseur will take charge from January 9 and will be responsible for turning the team around after failing to maintain a championship bid last season.

Confirming his departure from Alfa Romeo just minutes before Ferrari's announcement, Vasseur said: "As I prepare to end my adventure at Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, I can look back with emotion. these six years together. I owe a debt of gratitude to every employee of the team, because they are the ones who have put this team back on its feet and climbed the ranks of our sport.

"I'm proud of the work we've done collectively as a team and as a company, and even more so of the solid foundations we've laid for what's to come: but what I'm most proud of are the people who made it all possible, who over time became friends.

Ferrari has already confirmed that Binotto will remain at the helm until the end of December. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said: "We are delighted to welcome Fred Vasseur to Ferrari as our team principal.

"Throughout his career, he has managed to combine his technical strengths as an engineer by training with a constant ability to bring out the best in his drivers and teams. This approach and his leadership are what we need to drive Ferrari forward with renewed energy.”
