FG blames ignorance for environmental damage

Minister of State for the Environment, Dr Ishaq Salako, said most environmental abuse is due to ignorance.

Addressing a delegation from the Ogun State branch of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, who paid him a courtesy visit this weekend in Abuja, the Minister said that the sustainable use of the environment remained the "number one priority". priority" of the administration headed by President Bola Tinubu.

He added that urgent measures must be taken to reverse this ugly trend.

According to him, the current administration envisioned a country where sustainable use of the environment would become a mandatory civic duty.

Salako urged the country's public relations professionals to help the government conduct proper awareness among citizens, especially on proper waste disposal.

The Minister reiterated the government's commitment to prevent a situation in which Nigeria would become one of the top 10 countries in terms of disaster-induced poverty.

He said: “The environment is a means of subsistence; without environment, there can be no survival. Thus, for Mr. President, the sustainable use of the Nigerian environment is the number one priority because the environment is a gift from God, and if we do not use it well, God will be displeased with us.
