First Lady Charges Nigerian Youth with Nation Building

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged young people across the country to be diligent and rise up to take their place in nation building.

She gave this charge at the 2023 National Convention of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) in Abuja.

The theme of the convention was: "The Role of Young Christians in Nation-Building."

Ms. Tinubu, who was represented on the occasion by the wife of the President's Chief of Staff, Salamotu Gbajabiamila, expressed deep optimism that despite the challenges facing Nigeria, the country will reach its full potential.

She encouraged young people to imitate and imbibe strong virtues such as courage, integrity, humility and obedience to God, as shown in biblical characters who have shaped the course of history.

“There is no doubt that young people have a huge role to play both in the body of Christ and in the nation as a whole.

"There are examples in the scriptures of young men and women such as Joseph, Gideon, David, Deborah, Esther, Jeremiah, Timothy, and Elisha who demonstrated their love for God and were greatly used for God and their nation.

"We must always strive to obey the commandments of God and this must be evident in our behavior and our relationships with others, above all, we must love one another according to 1 John 4:12.''

The first accusation against the youth also resonated in the sermon of the general superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, William Kumuyi, who also charged the youth to be God-fearing in their conduct.

While raising posers on who has the responsibility to save and redeem the nation, he stressed the need for young people to confront lawlessness and corruption among themselves first and rise above false realities.

He said it would help young people become fit and usable for the task at hand, especially for those who aspire to be leaders in different spheres of life.

Earlier in his address, YOWICA National President Belusochukwu Enwere called on young people across the country to imbibe the spirit of determination, discipline and devotion to God.

Shortly before her inauguration as Grand Patroness of YOWICAN, Ms. Tinubu unveiled the corps' national uniform.

Other honorees include Past President, Goodluck Jonathan; the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Esther Ajayi, a reverend mother among others.
