First look at the reopening of the historic Italian cafe under the ownership of the Prada group

FORTE DEI MARMI, Italy — When the Prada Group acquired the historic Caffè Principe here in November 2022 , locals first thought was that a new Marchesi 1824 pastry was coming to town.

But as the historic location reopened after a six-month renovation process on Sunday, visitors won't will not find the signature eau de nil paint that defines the Marchesi 1824 cafes in Milan, nor its elegant banner. The fashion company has decided to honor the hotspot's heritage, retaining its original name and restoring its distinctive navy color which now covers part of the interior and all product packaging.

The result is a unique case in group home projects because it blends identity original of the place with the Marchesi 1824 and Prada. Of course, the culinary offerings are the same as at all Marchesi 1824 cafes – perfect pastries, boxes of sweets and small savory nibbles included – while the new interiors nod to the Prada brand archives. A Prada women's clothing store is adjacent to the cafe and a men's clothing unit is a stone's throw away.
