Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspected cases of telecom cable vandals in the Ikoyi area of ​​the state.

State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement on Thursday that the suspects, Yekini Mohammed, Mohammed Abdullahi, Tukur Mukaila, Abdulrazaq Abdulrahmon and Danladi Nura, had been arrested on Wednesday by police. on patrol.

He said the suspects dug up a 20-meter-long telecommunications cable which they were about to move onto a white bus, adding that two backhoes and two shovels were found in their ownership.

He said: "Rapid Response Team officials have arrested five suspected telecom cable thieves, Yekini Mohammed, Mohammed Abdullahi, Tukur Mukaila, Abdulrazaq Abdulrahmon and Danladi Nura.

"The suspects were arrested at around 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday September 8, 2022 by police officers on patrol in Oyinkan Abayomi, near Alexander Road, Ikoyi, with a white Volkswagen T4 bus with the license plate. registration, KTU 357 YF.

"The suspects had dug up a 20 meter long telecommunications cable which they were about to move into the white bus. They also found in their possession two backhoes and two shovels.

"During the interrogation, the bus driver, Yekini Mohammed, explained that he had been invited to the scene by other scrap and metal dealers to collect scrap materials in different areas of Victoria Island and Ikoyi for delivery to Lakulaku, Obalende, where they resell them.”

Hundeyin said state police commissioner Abiodun Alabi ordered the case be transferred to the state criminal investigation department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation. investigation and prosecution.
