My love of flying started growing up in Kent in the 1970s. Every once in a while my dad would decide that we would go to France.

We would hop in our battered Mini Traveller, drive to at Lydd Airport in Kent and speed straight down a ramp into the clamshell mouth of a Bristol Type 170 Freighter These old propeller planes carried four cars and 20 passengers and in no time we'd be Le Touquet.

We would go in time for lunch and be back for soup er, bags full of stinky cheeses, pots of fish soup and bottles of wine.
