But this season she designed more instinctively, using herself and an abstract black collage and gold she does in her notebook as a guide. When she saw similar shapes in the work of artist Imi Knoebel during a visit to the Dia Beacon, she saw it as a sign to follow her instincts.

With the models she chose friends including Cecile Richards, author Roda Ahmed and the Spanish singer Leiva, putting her trademark family front and center. "It's like this army of happy, strong people coming together," Hearst said during a preview.

Red carpet race should already be on for black knit dresses with gold nappa outline raw-edged bodices, which are made for the modern goddess. Hearst also injected a bit of rock 'n' roll into his signature suit, with gold bars framing the lapels of a chic pantsuit.

She has long been taken with swirls, which she used this season as a knitting pattern on a groovy orange and gold jumpsuit that, like much of the rest of the psychedelia seething this week, would be at home in Burning Man. A black tube knit bra top over flared pants was also fun.

Hearst has worked on perfecting pieces that are a mix of cozy knit and woven effects - Piece A, a black merino wool sweater dress with sculpted full sleeves in ivory eco-silk.

Gold leather pants, a chic maxi coat and ruched leather skirts and tops complete the outfit. bolder approach. The metallic gold sheer mesh dresses, some draped artfully over the shoulders, were also gorgeous.

The next step for the designer is the Chloé show, then she opens a Gabriela Hearst store in Korea, followed by Los Angeles. How does she do all this?

"There's a steep learning curve. Don't get me wrong, but the secret of it all that is to work ahead and sleep well."

To that end, she had a new recommendation for a sleep app, started by an entrepreneur who has worked with the Navy Seals, she shared. Enter your flight time and it tells you when to eat and take supplements. Hearst's mind-body approach makes one wonder if the wellness category could be his next step?
