Gabriele Colangelo Pre-Fall 2023

Glitch art and its philosophy of turning digital or analog errors into artistic effects provided the starting point by Gabriele Colangelo creative exploration for pre-fall.

During a Zoom call, the designer detailed how the art movement inspired him to introduce distortion into its range via jacquard textiles, the irregular surface of cotton bouclé yarns or take advantage of the mottled technique of warp printing before weaving to have faded but charming visual results.

Yet all of these elements and experimentation succumbed under the overall aura of sophistication that defines the aesthetic uncluttered and impeccable adaptation Colangelo. Contrary to its inspiration, there was no flaw in the refined fashions of this collection.

In keeping with its understated approach to luxury, Colangelo has used contrast stitching to outline the silhouettes and subtly enhance the suits, roomy Bermuda shorts and plaid miniskirts. Silk braided tubular details lined with artful embellishment punctuating the necklines of dresses or running around the waistline of skirts, where metallic snap hooks offered additional utilitarian adornment. Go for a minimalist spaghetti strap dress and a simple yet beautiful look pairing an asymmetrical cerulean top with a citrine yellow paneled skirt.

While a few lace-up forays veered in a sultry direction - a black satin pencil skirt blending into lace with a gradient effect was a highlight for both design and craftsmanship - Colangelo also injected a refreshingly laid-back vibe via hybrid outerwear styles. For example, he introduced knits on the back of a cropped pea coat and combined a fitted front coat with a padded back for an even stronger contrast. A quilted taffeta cape also surprises with its ample volume, which contrasts with the elongated silhouettes of the refined range.
