What is happening? Gavin and Stacey are coming back after five years... right?

On Tuesday, American television and film site Deadline announced that the sitcom hit was set to return to screens for a one-off special in December, setting the rumor mill in motion.

However, there has had no official confirmation from BBC studios. And Gavin and Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones played down the speculation, saying that it was "unfortunately a rumour".

Speaking to Irish station RTE Radio 1 on Wednesday, she added: "All I can say , is that if there was anything to be said on that front, James [Corden] and I would be happy to announce it, we would."

The other actors are in the dark. Asked about the report on BBC One's Morning Live, Steffan Rhodri, who plays Dave, said he had "no knowledge to pass on".

"I heard there was a rumor, I never know where they start and I certainly don't know where they will end", said he added.

TV critic Scott Bryan thinks it might just be "a little too early" to get a definitive answer on an episode that's supposed to happen this Christmas.
